Schoolchildren for Children
Currently, Share the Health™ is working with SCHOOLCHILDREN FOR CHILDREN™, an international charity based in Great Britain. This charity works with schools K-12 to support children living in marginal situations while supporting the health and physical fitness of young people in the UK and the US. One of the purposes of this program is to provide British and American participants the benefits associated with helping out in improving global health. If in the U.S., visit SCHOOLCHILDREN FOR CHILDREN-USA.
Schoolchildren for Children encourages young people to exercise more - for health, confidence and character building. This fundraising initiative encourages young people to exercise, not only to help themselves and their schools and clubs, but to help children less fortunate than themselves.
The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports announded in April 09 that Schoolchildren for Children (ScfC) will partner with USA Rugby (USAR) to bring together the ScfC Million Miles Challenge and the Rookie Rugby Club. ScfC and USAR will be uniting to bring this innovative campaign to the young people of America. Successfully piloted in the UK, the concept is for young people to raise funds through exercise. Half of the proceeds of the sponsorship will be going to their club, school or program for sports equipment or coaching. The other half will go to charitable projects overseas. The Long Horse Ride
The Long Horse Ride is a journey on horseback from Beijing to London. It is scheduled to start out shortly after the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and to arrive in London in time for the 2012 London Olympics.
The ride will bring a message of goodwill from Beijing in the Beijing Olympic year to London in the London Olympic year. It also aims to raise money for disadvantaged children through its chosen charity Schoolchildren For Children.
You can read more about the adventures along the way by checking out The Long Horse Ride blog.
